Many people are treated differently or worse than others for no objective reason because they belong to a certain group – or because someone assumes they belong to that certain group.
The General Equal Treatment Act (Allgemeines Gleichbehandlungsgesetzt -AGG) protects against discrimination in relation to the following (ascribed) characteristics:
If a person is discriminated against on the basis of one of these characteristics and without an objective reason, this is discrimination.
In addition to the characteristics mentioned in the AGG, people can also be discriminated against in relation to their appearance, weight, nationality, social background, financial situation and so on.
In our society people are being discriminated against on a daily basis due to a variety of reasons. However, relevant statistical data has not yet been collected in Schweinfurt. Therefore, we are collecting cases of discrimination in order to record the situation on the ground. This will help us to determine the need for action and counselling.
By reporting your case of discrimination, you support the Integration Council in making discirimination of all kinds visible in Schweinfurt. The statistical data is intended to help establish a professional anti-discrimination advisary in our city.
